papyro
About

The people behind papyro.

A documentation platform for ECSS space projects, built by an engineer who needed one.

1The story

On an ESA project Carlos, our founder, found himself with a stack of ECSS documents to deliver in a few weeks, and a tool, Word, that belonged to another age. Engineers had AI and software workflows for everything else. For documentation they still had templates, e-mail and copy-paste.

So he built a pipeline: documents written in Markdown, kept in Git, turned into the deliverable PDF and a readable wiki by industry-informed AI tools. When his colleagues saw the speed and the quality of what came out, they all switched to it and made it the team's workflow.

If one team could drop the frustrating part of documentation, the whole industry could. papyro is that pipeline, made into a product, so that engineers spend their time on the work they came for: designing, testing, calculating, simulating, building.

2Where papyro stands

Early access, by invitation. papyro is preparing its first pilots in the German NewSpace scene, and is built on what engineers across the supply chain said they need.

Built on evidence
24
engineers surveyed

Design, systems, AIT, product assurance and project management, across NewSpace companies, primes and suppliers. Product assurance spends more than half of its week in documents.

Interviews
along the supply chain

Long conversations with very experienced engineers across industries: an AIT checkout lead at a prime, business development at an enterprise supplier, mechanism and systems engineers at SMEs and in robotics. Their words shaped the review workflow.

Hands-on
test sessions

Practising systems engineers drove the prototype themselves, from statement of work to released PDF, and said what got in the way. Every round improved the product.

3Mission

Give engineering teams their hours back, so that the documentation of a space project is a record of the work, not a second job.
